Important Information Before Applying
Self-Funded Expenses
All participating bands are fully responsible for covering their own travel, visa, accommodation, and competition-related expenses.
This includes (but is not limited to) flights, ground transport, hotels, visa fees, and any additional costs incurred during:
- Local heats within their country
- The African Regional Finals in Johannesburg, South Africa
The winning band will also be responsible for all travel and associated expenses to Germany for the Global Finals at Wacken Open Air.
Regional Heats
Bands are required to travel to the nearest city within their country to participate in a regional qualifying heat.
Regional heats will be organized based on the number of submissions received per city. A minimum of three (3) bands is required to form a regional heat.
African Regional Finals
Bands that qualify from their respective regions will advance to the Wacken Metal Battle Africa Finals, held in Johannesburg, South Africa.
All participating finalists are responsible for their own travel, accommodation, and competition expenses.
Global Competition
The winning band from the African Finals will earn the opportunity to represent Africa at the Global Metal Battle in Hamburg, Germany, competing against winners from around the world.
Passport and Visa Requirements
Each band member must hold a valid passport with an expiry date beyond the competition year to be eligible for travel.
It is the responsibility of each band to familiarize themselves with their respective country’s visa requirements and plan all applications and documentation well in advance.
