It's a talent contest for Heavy Metal / Rock Bands
W:O:A – a festival, that has deservedly recieved the nickname of „The Cult Festival“. If you ask the metal fans all over Germany - and for the last 8 years all over the world - which event is the most important to them, then the majority will give you the same answer: Wacken Open Air.
W:O:A not only supports the major acts but even in the early days with the introduction of the so called „WET STAGE“ they endeavoured to give the less known bands a forum to present themselves. In 2004 the W:O:A Supporters Club „Metalheadz“ staged a 2 day talent contest in the Wacken „Hall of Metal“.
This wasn't enough for the W:O:A team. It was therefore decided to take the Metal Battle Germany wide under it's own organisation. In every region their was a live battle where 6 bands went head to head with each other. A qualified jury then decided the region's winner and these winners then participated in the semi - final held in the Hall of Metal in Wacken...
Here a jury chose three bands who could then take part in a final contest against international newcomers at the W:O:A festival.
The 2005 winners, GORILLA MONSOON, received the prize of a label deal with Armageddon Music and are now working hard on their album. At the same time opportunities have opened for the band to go out on tour to present themselves to a much larger public. The hard work has been worth it and proved that the platform METAL BATTLE is a great way of leaping into the professional league. It was also surprising to see the high quality of all the participating bands which has justified the decision to present this competition further and present these bands to the public.
