W:O:A METAL BATTLE DANMARK 2012

WHAT IS METAL BATTLE?
W:O:A Metal Battle is a metal talent competition started out by the biggest metal festival of the world in 2004 – Wacken Open Air . The competition was started as way for the festival to contribute to boost the metal scene. The first year 11 bands took part in the competition which only took part at the festival itself. Since then the concept has evolved tremendously and in 2012 more than 30 countries worldwide is participating in the contest.

In 2012 the Danish Metal Battle is held for the third time. The 2010 DK winner was By The Patient and last year Aphyxion won the Danish title.

SHOWTIME!
The competition in Denmark is build up of 5 preliminary rounds and a final. The dates are:

April 4th - Studenterhuset, Aalborg
April 5th - Fermaten, Herning
April 13th - Godset, Kolding
April 14th - V58, Aarhus
May 3rd - Gimle, Roskilde
DK FINAL
May 5th - Pumpehuset, København

At each preliminary show 3-5 bands will participate. In addition a headliner will shortly be announced for the entire Metal Battle tour. The audience can expect a show of more than 4 hours of metal madness
All bands competing in the pre-shows has all been carefully selected by a jury, based on their submitted material.

ROULING & JURY
In each preliminary round and at the final it is a jury which decide who will go on to the DK final, and who will ultimately stand as the winner of the 2012 DK battle.
The audience has from 2012 been granted the right to have a say in the ruling. The collected voting of the audience at each round and at the final will represent one (1) vote in the jury.
The involved members of the jury are all experienced people og the metal scene. Being musicians, reviewers, promoters, producers and like.

WHY A SHOW LIKE METAL BATTLE?
Compared to other music competitions’, W:O:A Metal Battles main focus is to strengthen the metal scene. Therefore we do not at first see this as a competition, but more as an opportunity to send an upcoming Danish act to the world’s biggest metal fest – Wacken Open Air.

Those bands that comes to the preliminary rounds, gets an unique possibility to meet potential future partners and colleagues. They also get the chance to speak to the jury after each show, where the jury will give advice to the bands on good/bad of their performance and with ideas on how the bands should move forward. Remember that each member of the jury are all experienced people from the metal scene and their focus is to pas on knowledge and in-sight info from the business to the bands.

WHAT CAN YOU WIN?
When it all comes down to it, W:O:A Metal Battle is after all a competition and as with all other competitions there has to be a winning price. Metal Battle is no exception.
The winning band from each preliminary round moves on to the grand final in Copenhagen.
The winner of the DK final earns the right to represent Denmark at the international final at Wacken in August. As tradition dictates there will follow some shows for the DK winner in Denmark.
For the winner of the final at Wacken, a dream price awaits. Not only do the win A LOT of new music equipment but they win the ultimate price in terms of a record deal with no other then NUCLEAR BLAST!!!

WHO CAN TAKE PART?
All bands who play original music within the hard rock/metal genre can apply for the competition. Furthermore the band may not have a signed record deal or one lined up in the near future.
There are today some “grey zones” in terms of when a record has been released through a company or if a distribution deal is considered a deal. In doubts and your band wish to take part in the battle, do not hesitate to contact us and we will sort it out.

HOW DO WE SIGN UP?

You send a promo package minimum containing:

- Band describtion
- Band picture
